This open letter by Abhishek Jagini is in response to BRIAN from New Zealand (allegedly a god zoned country)

Point on Transactions in Culture :

The very tenets of Chaturvida phala purushartha and the understanding that God is an aspect of substratum makes us practical in the gross world which is all about matter, material and exchange/sharing for value (transaction).

The Chaturvida Phala pursharthas are as follows

1) Dharma - Dhrutih Kshamaa Damo Asteyam Shauchamindriyanigraha
Dhirvidya Satyamakrodho Dashakam Dharmalakshanam
. - Definition of Dharma by Rishi Manu (Manu Smriti)
Note: Manu is a policy thinker, his treatise is a law not a religious book.

2) Artha - Economy is purely based on Q=f(K+L) that is production of output/service is a function of capital and labour, coefficient of technology in labour. Then protecting ones goods.

The Model of Chatur Varna -
Masses(Shudras) for production
Mind(Brahmana) for training and technology
Money(Vaishyas) for Capital and Commerce
Muscle (Kshatriyas) for protection
All together maintained and sustained the economy.

Chanakya one of the founding father's of Indian Economy and Strategy in his seminal treatise the Chankaya Pranitha sutras starts with 'Dharmasya Moolam Arthaha', Dharma is the source of Commerce/Economy/Wealth.

Note: The Angus Madison report of the World Economy titled 'The World Economy - A millennial perspective' sponsored by the OECD countries proves based on evidence how India dominated the world trade with 35%> of the world GDP for several centuries until external invasions which destroyed the indigenous practices.

But still stick to the roots despite centuries of Oppression. Yes a large part of the culture and practices have undergone undesired changes yet the core philosophy is the same. Atleast we Indians are better than Parthians, Scythians, Greece, Egyptians, Mesopotamians, Romans of Ancient World.

Turkey, Afghanistan, Iran, several African, American, and other central Asian cultures which are disconnected from their roots. Despite 800+ years of impression we are keeping our value systems.

3) Kama - The western civilization or rather the Christian Narrative finds base in 'The Sin' of Apple and desire, but our philosophy is not based on guilt or victim consciousness, we understand that only desire/thought of actions & wants drives the world.

The third pillar of Kama or desire is acknowledged as essential in a human living not to have any regrets. But any desire in the ambit of the Dharma Shastras and desire when dharmic doesn't bind one in karma.

The same has been beautifully woven into our system. As Chatur Varnas, Desire for anything beyond necessity is given provision only in Gruhasthashram (Family life 25-50 years of Age) the other three stages of life being
Brahmacharyaashram (Student Life 0-25 life for learning serving the teachers),
Vaanaprasthashram 50+ -> Resting and Retiring from Worldly life guiding proginy to run the house),
Sanyaashram (70ish - Focusing on salvation).

Those disinterested in Desire opted for Sanyaas directly after Brahmacharyaashram.

4) Moksha - The quest for the highest attainment, that which is possible only by a Human birth - Moksha or freedom from the birth cycle.

The concept of 'Self', is center to the World view of individuals from the sub-continent.
Caste was never birth based but only matter of choice in high school, until British imposed their laws of succession. Indian system has Varna and Jati which was difficult for the British to comprehend. It is only by British imposition that caste was decided by birth.

Records from the Madras presidency schools and elsewhere show how all the castes students were enrolled in schools. Even what we refer to as SC, BC or OBC were enrolled in schools. Another proof to this is the Indian Education survey report by William Adam, the same report read out by his assistant Macaulay to the British Parliament.

Appointment of educated Brahmin class who acted as Tax collectors has developed the division in the society during British era (not even Mughal, as they had Jagirdari and Mansabdari systems), also in revenue lands department.

The so called oppression could be possible (only in some pockets, as a result of British imposed policy) only post 1857 and pre 1950, that too after 1950 constitutional safeguards were in place for protecting the underprivileged and the minorities.

Point on Temples :

Temples in India, the ones like Sun Temple - Konark, Brihadeshwara temple - Tanjavur, temples in the 18 Shakti peetas, 108 Vishnu Stanas, 4 major Shankara Mathas, 2 additional Mathas, Mathas of  Dvaitha and Vishisthadwaitha likes in Sriperumbudur and Mantralaya, Panchabhootha lingas, Char dham, Kashi, Manasarovar, Bodh Gaya, Vaishnav devi, Amarnath and thousands of other temples in India are architectual marvels and expression of not just Art but also technology, if not for the skilled planners, craftsmen, technical workers how were such magnanimous constructions built. These temples even today are the prime centers of Tourism and attract visitors from all over the world.

Both as religious and spiritual centers, these pilgrimage centers offered to the seekers many services like the 'Shodasha Sanskaras' or 16 ceremonies as discussed in the scriptures from birth to death, in fact Kashi and Gaya offer post death ceremonies, in addition to the lakhs of religious services, drivers, boatmen, hotels, motels, vendors and millions of other jobs are generated by the temples in India. It is a wonder in itself how this has been so beautifully inter woven into our religion or traditional practices. This also promoted exchanges of ideas, practices, technology, goods and people.

The temples were much bigger centers of learning and research with associated Gurukuls, even today Tirumala temple has very popular Goshala, Ved patashala, Free Food kitchen which serves a few lakhs  servings every meal. Gurukuls until 1835 had a minimum of 20,000 students each; any institute which had lesser students was affiliated to a Gurukul making Gurukuls more or less like University to put it in modern terminology.

They offered free education, as they received donations also the Gurukuls has revenue models based on the produce there. St. Thomas also came to Madras to learn from Gurus in here, he lived here, died here.

Even Steve Jobs had free food served one such temple during his tough days.

Point on Religions :

Sikhism initially evolved as protectors of Hinduism the Gurus lead armies to protect Hindus. They had sacrificed their lives, they brutally ablaze alive, stamped upon by elephants, some warriors were even put into walls alive and plastered inside, their children beheaded demanding them to submit to the Mughal rulers, but Gurus always stood by dharma.

The community grew largely to defend the Hindus during the tenure of Mughals. It later developed as a separate religion. After the formation of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee it was under more of an organized structure. The committee later gave birth to Shiromani Akali Dal in 1920. The community grew not just as a religious but also a socio-political entity. Yet the SAD, was always a unifying and integrating force in India.

But the 'Divide and rule policy' of the British and their successor the Congress party saw things worsening, so much that after decades a faction even demanded for a separate nation of Khalistan. Albeit all challenges, the Sikh community is today sends the large number of soldiers to the Indian Army, they have a separate regiment called the 'Sikh regiment'. The Sikhs are respected for their patriotism, sacrifice and volunteerism.

The demand for separate Sikh Marriage acts is a part of the evolution of the community and it's legal recognition.

Jainism & Buddhism were Mathas, evolved from 'Math' literally meaning opinion. They interpret the same things differently. Hinduism is not a stagnant dead belief system but a lively and dynamic one, it evolves with time an abandons the past which is not relevant, during the time of Adi Shankaracharya there were 172 religions in India, which he combined through dialogue (not bribe or forced conversion). He tied them all in the sutra of Advaitha and instead suggested the five streams of worship.

Something common in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism are 'OM' the primordial sound (something the book religions wouldn't accept), the concept of rebirth, karma, dharma. I am sure none of this has space in the Abrahamic religions. "If there are 99 Hindus in a room and 1 Christian, even after a year it could be status quo, but if the room had the contrary, what would have happened? This is possible only in India because none of Indian faiths are evangelical. But is it the same with the Abrahamic religions?"

Christians and Muslim both traveled to Indian sub continent and settled here. And were accepted and absorbed into the demography even before formation of Indian Union. "They were accepted not because India is secular but it is because Hindus are secular", if Indians really found differences they could never accept and accommodate others faiths.

Jews were persecuted almost everywhere in the world, it s only in India that they found their second home, the respect and love Israel has for India is a testimonial to it. Parsis after their fire temple was burnt came to India and settled here in Gujarat, they were welcomed and given warm reception. The Parsi community has contributed to India many successful business leaders.

This is reflection of our culture; more insights can be got from the speech of Swami Vivekananda delivered at the Parliament of World religions at Chicago.

Point on European schools :

The first of schools in Europe were the Sunday church schools started a little after 1700s, which were accessible only for the rich. But in India, 7000 years ago, Maharshi Valmiki who was a hunter who could author the epic, Ramayana? Without a school how could he do this? We didn't call them schools we had different terminology. English schools were started only after the British closed by law the Indian schools or Gurukuls after 1835.

The Christian Schools even today force Hindu students not to apply tilak and make them read Christian prayers.

Point on Jaya Lalitha:

Jayalalitha appealed in a the Supreme court, the matter was sub-judice when she became a Chief Minister. In democracy people's mandate is the highest. But law has it place too. She was arrested until she got relieved by a provision under law.

Voting is done not for the ideal candidate, but best of those available.

Point on Plassey and Treachery :

A detailed study of Plassey will show that, the Indian side got the 'Gun powder' delivered 3 days later than the British. Popular management professors in India often quote this mistake to get your resources ready 3 days in advance to win the conflicts. Indian accepts mistakes and learn lessons to correct the path. It is about being a better person everyday than being better than the other person. It is the Mlechhas which have back stabbed in the past and who continue to do so every time.

No society is ideal or homogeneous it has always have good and bad elements, moreover this is Kali Yuga what we identify as bad times. The bad sell themselves for a few pennies. If the person taking a bribe is cheap, isn't the coward who is paying bribe to wage a war? What do we call him, not confident of his strength? Any names ?

Point on Inequality:

'Narayana Sarva iti' - lord is everywhere, 'vyomat vyapta dehaya' - his embodies the entire universe, these are prayers, which encompass everything and everyone. It is not selective and encompassing only those believe in own's faith. A faith which sees even stone as god, how would it ignore a living being ? Anything contrary to this has only crept in, it is not native to India. This is only a colonial hangover.

The question BRIAN should put is why your God zoned country is still a Monarchy and enslaved by a throne even in this modern era. India and the USA both were colonies too, but have evolved as responsible republics and democracies?

Do you require some lessons on this please feel free to write to me at abhishek91jgd@gmail.com

Thank you BRIAN

(Such articles like yours make me remember how great a nation, state and country India was, is and will continue to be. Last point India was actually called Bharatha - The land of those who rejoice Knowledge)

A Modern Hindu's view on the tale that is #377

Yesterday I was comprehending over the issue of SC's statement on #Sec377.

I was confused and was oscillating in between what is right and what is wrong. Though I always stand by morality (and not conformity) I was in a tie because it is related to Sex the most Tabooed (next to Death) topic almost every where in the world.

I was actually in a state where I was prejudiced by the veil of culture and could not go against the usual occidental approach and looking at it as a more of Sin or something alien to this land. It was the because of the attuned of mind, for which on introspection I found the cause being colonial hang-over and stale education system which has neither been blessed with any revival since ages nor it helps its seekers with essential powers of reasoning and thinking. All it could successfully accomplish is stereotyping an entire generation. It did take some courage and mental strength to break the barriers and look beyond them. Here the quote from Tagore also seems very contextual :

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action

Thanks to the scholars who in right time throw light to wipe out the ignorance and make one think broadly in an all inclusive manner. In that moment of perplexity tap came answer from HH SriSri Ravishankar (my Master) whom I and a whole lot of people lovingly address a Gurudev / Guruji / SriSri.
His answers to any questions (personal, social, cultural, political etc) are instinctive and seem enchanting to anyone regardless of their race, religion, age, gender and ethnicity.

In view of #Sec377ofIPC and the Comments of Supreme Court of India in a case recently he has responded this way (on Social media) :

SriSri Ravi Shankarji :

"Homosexuality has never been considered a crime in Hindu culture. In fact, Lord Ayyappa was born of Hari-Hara (Vishnu & Shiva). It is not a crime in any Smriti. Everyone has male & female elements. According to their dominance, tendencies show up & may change. Nobody should face discrimination because of their sexual preferences. To be branded a criminal for this is absurd."

After an intense pondering on the subject I got a deeper insight of universality. Someone rightly said "Just because we don't accept or ignore certain realities it does not mean they do not exist."

To all my brethren who would allude about law as the yard stick / cane which rules and governs we need to recall that Sati and Slavery were ones laws too. It is not to disrespect laws but just to keep in mind that the so called laws were framed by members of society to make this society a congenial place for living. law were and are made by Humans for Humans. And these laws over the years have undergone amendments several times. The base for the Indian Law is the British law, for instance the #Sec377 is also a outcome of the British Law but they have them selves amended their ways.

When I had to say it is because of their influence that LGBT's face sucha situation because 1) We have not amended are laws. 2) This one is really important : Before Colonization or much before that when we were not yet raided by Afghans and other plunderers who settled here as rulers, the rules of the game were different.

Vishnu as Mohini

There are stories Mahabharata, Ramayana and even other Puranas mentioning about LGBTs. It may be about Hari-Hara sangama which resulted birth of Ayyappa is described in Bhagavat Puran and also in Tripura Rahasya, there are also instances when Vishnu takes the form of Mohini during Ksheer Sagara/Samudra manthan (churning of the milk ocean) is mentioned in Srimad Bhagavad Puran; also Vishnu took the form of Mohini to seduce Bhasmasura and make him place his palm on his head to kill himself, this is well described in Vishnu Purana.

Krishna takes the form of Mohini to satisfy Aravan (Son of Arjuna and Ulupi); Aravan had to killed in a day (In view of Victory in Kurukshetra) when nobody was ready to marry him Krishna had to do this.

Shiva

Lord Shiva turns into a female and take form of Gopi to dance with Krishna in the Raasa-leela according to a lore in Western India. Inspired by this is the temple of Gopeshwariji in Vrindavan.

Shikandi

The popular story of Shikandi (Son of Drupada) who was a born Women raised as a Man because Drupada was toll by Rishis that one day he would turn into Man. Shikandi later turns into a man by the blessing of a Yaksha (which was actually for only one day but under circumstances remains life long). There is another story related to the previous birth of Shikandi where in he was Amba gets the boon from Lord Shiva to be the cause of Bhishma's death.

Arjuna

Arjuna turns into Vrihanalla (Eunuch) as he rejected the plea of Urvasi to satisfy him. (In Bramhavaivarta purana Mohini tells Brahma that When a man cannot satisfy a Woman in her fertile period is a Eunuch).

In Ramayana

According to Hijra folklore, when Rama went to the forest in exile, he asked the men and women of Ayodhya who had followed him to return to the city. Since he said nothing to those who were neither male nor female, these waited outside the city until he returned. Touched by their devotion, Rama declared that the non-man would be king in the Kali Yuga.

Ramayana in Lanka

Also in the Valmiki Ramayana,It is said that Hanuman has seen Rakshasa women kissing and embracing those women who have been kissed and embraced by Ravana.

One quote from Devdutt Pattanaik who is also an inspiration behind this write up and whose books have been great source of information :

"A cynic would say, Shikhandi was used by Krishna. A devotee will argue, Krishna made even Shikhandi useful."

Shikandi was seen as a women by Bhishma, but Krishna has seen Shikandi beyond being a male/female and welcomed him. Krishna accepted Shikandi as he/she was unconditionally.

So it is for oneself to take the call whether to be with Krishna or Bhishma.

A depleting Anna saga

Abhishek Jagini

Anna Hazare, the man who stood up for anti- corruption recently announced the re-beginning of his campaign. The movement for Jan Lokpal Bill received a very cold response in Hyderabad. Hazare said that for the next one and a half years, he would tour the country for this purpose.
The campaign supporters were in thousands in 2011, and the number is constantly reducing since the last two years. "In this country of 120 crore, I am confident that I will be successful in awakening at least 6 crore people. For the same, I will be traveling for the next one-and-half years to create awareness, who can force the government to change the system," he said.

The ‘India Against Corruption’ which got divided into two, of which the political faction was led by Arvind kejriwal who formed the ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ and the apolitical one led by Anna Hazare has been named as ‘Janatantra Morcha'. The movement was launched in Patna on January 30th.
Former army Chief Major General V K Singh who shared the stage called upon the people to unite and be a part of Anna's movement. "The policies of the country have not helped the common man. Corruption is increasing and natural resources are being exploited. We should collectively fight this menace and bring about the change."

The Needle Stings

After a hectic day at college, I reached home and took a shower. I switched on the TV and on screen was an old man giving a discourse from Puranas. Though the subject of the talk seemed little complicated, the words he fit it into grabbed my attention. He was explaining in detail the factors which control the Environment (i.e. including Human body and mind). His thought provoking speech was ringing in my mind when I was on my bed late at night.

In his discourse he has discussed how the three energies of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva influence one’s lives. He had gone into intricate details with several examples. But I felt all that seems to be dominated by the materialistic influences in today’s world. Lord Rama no longer inspires people as tabloids do. People use to take the name of the lord, read scriptures, sing and praise the name of god. But in the present world, people are more interested in colorful and ravishing stuff. That which is paid for packaged, to be printed. It may be sports, Page3 or something else. The Shallow stuff is well presented in most of the news papers today; consuming this is similar to eating stale food because it is garnished. Food needs to be garnished and colorful but it has to be hygienic and healthy too.

Several times we grumble about flaws in the system. But people in our society encourage these white collar hypocrites by watching their good for nothing programs and reading opinionated articles. We contribute to the world of crime: money and power. With TRPs and circulation, these media houses not just make money, but also a grower in influencing the government on several issues in our society. By increase in these favorable numbers these media further spoil the system. As the reach is growing, the analogy of food is apt here. It is like if you eat Pani Puri or Gol Gappa it enhances digestion and helps clean the elementary canal, but at the same if you take for a full meal, it may even kill you of diarrhea.

To claim the position of Fourth Estate Media houses and their tabloids need to be more responsible. These houses which boast of social responsibility run big businesses by selling the space of news articles. Our readers are as usual very casual about it.

How many of us are aware of the fact that the supplements in some reputed papers are ‘Advertorials’* and not actually news/articles.

After all that Vishnu bhajan it’s now Shiva’s turn. Thanks to the Shiva trilogy and Amish, those at least by his writings people especially the youth have started to admire Shiva. More than Shiva it is the Celluloid that makes a man dance, eat, drink and walk. Most of the businesses are controlled by the celluloid. It may be a car, or accessories, to fashion, architecture and so on. Even our relationships are controlled by a mere piece of reel. It is high time to realize that REEL WORLD IS DIFFERENT FROM REAL WORLD.  TO all those out there who fight for women’s rights and abuse of women, it is important to notice that how many of us have objected when women are portrayed as mere sexual objects in movies. The popular culture of movies has a great influence on young impressionable minds and the formation of a value system.

The last of one of the trinity was ‘Brahma’ though he was the creator he was not given much importance because he lied to Shiva about some checkpoint in race with Vishnu, as Shiva was the host and he knew about the check points he penalized Brahma for the same.

Moral for media, both tabloids and celluloids is stop faking…

Fantasy and fiction is good if it helps us to evolve as better human beings.

The READERS and VIEWERS   “BEWARE of these Hypocrites and avoid them”

And remember you are their strength, their TRP and their circulation. Media was responsible for the inspiration for many revolutions in the past. If Media itself is corrupt, it is our responsibility as members of the society to cleanse it.

For the same purpose the PCI has given a report on how the Newspapers are making Money by unethical means.

Below are some links in support of the same:

The report runs into thousands of pages.. These PDFs contains only a part of the report

MUST WATCH video:

‘Advertorials’* are paid articles, where the person who wants the article to be printed at the same time not in an advertisement format but as a n article pays the publisher for the same. Here the reader falls a prey to these articles as he is not informed which is ‘paid news’ and which is actual news.

‘Paid news’ – there is exchange of money or other benefits for the news to be printed.

rajiv bhai death, rajiv dixit story in english, rajiv dixit mystery, pradeep dixit, rajiv swadeshi andolan, bharat swabhiman andolan

The Ominous evening of 29th Nov 2010 around 7:30 I got a call from someone saying Rajiv Bhai is unwell, and he has been admitted in the hospital. Those were the days when he was residing in Chattisgarh, and that evening he was to address a meeting of Bharat Swabhiman at Bhilai. As soon as I got the news I tried calling both his numbers and they were switched off. When I contacted all his friends I came to know that he had been admitted in the hospital. I immediately asked them that have they informed Swamiji about it and they replied that Swamiji has been informed about Rajiv bhai’s\ situation. He is the one who is discussing with the doctors. If the situation worsens then the arrangements to take him to Delhi are on the way. I made ample of unsuccessful attempts to have a word with my brother. I didn’t give a second thought and started from Raipur thinking that if possible we can get him treated at Sevagram.
